Straw bales were placed over urinal troughs to protect them and the removal of the bricks began. Bob's friends and supporters rallied round armed with crow bars, hammers and chisels.

An electric jack-hammer appeared complete with a compressor and a squad of volunteer workers from the Y.M.C.A. training unit began work on the second day. The transport was provided by the contractors and a scrap yard friend who also provided his mobile crane.

By day six the last of the urinal sections were gently removed, loaded onto a truck along with the larger stone blocks and transported to a secure place of storage provided by the Council.  Fifty two enthusiastic people donated their services free of charge to save a little piece of their town's heritage.
