"Olley on Aesop"

Fables, myths and legends are an integral part of the human experience, with as much significance in today's society and culture as that of ancient Greece.

"Olley on Aesop" is a fantastic exploration of fable through the medium of painting. Bob's interpretation of Aesop's beautifully crafted stories is simply exquisite.

The extraordinary exhibition of work has a vibrancy of colour and clarity of image that simply stuns the viewer.

We are reminded of the versatility and depth of the artist's creative imagination…… Bob has always had the capacity to surprise and sometimes shock his audience. In this instance he has also added a layer of delight which invokes in us the capacity to engage with the work as both child and adult.

The viewer is drawn into the story whilst in the Gallery space. Each beautifully drawn watercolour is supported by audio accompaniment and text, so the visitor is wrapped in an environment of texture and sound.

Aesop's Fables remind us of the human condition in a way which amuses us, but also provokes thought and reflection on our lives. Bob has reached into the stories and with great understanding and sensitivity, illuminating their meaning.

Some of the images make us smile and lighten the heart. Others are not quite so comfortable to look at.

The artist has a wonderful ability to stimulate and provoke. "Olley on Aesop" most certainly achieves this.
