The new Primary Care Trust building, South Shields

January  2007

Title of the work is " SALUS CURATIO ET AQUA" the Latin for health, care and water.

Location, the reception area of the new Primary Care Trust building, Flagg Court, South Shields.
Commissioned by S.T.P.C.T.
Part funded by British Arts Council North.

The four meter long by 1.5 meter high internal feature is made up of 31 separate panels each with a metallic finish.

The subject of the feature is the history of South Shields from Celtic and Roman times, through it's maritime and industrial heritage of coal mining, shipbuilding and engineering. From Brigantia the Celtic Goddess of healing and water, Asclepius the Roman God of medicine and healing to the new South Tyneside Primary Care Trust.

Work began on the commission in June 2006 and was completed by December 2006 and installed January 2007.

The concept of the feature was to give people sitting in the waiting area of the centre, a focal point of interest that they could understand and relate to.
There is a key that gives a detailed description and explanation to each of the thirty one panels.
