"We have all heard elderly folk reminisce about neighbours that could be relied upon in a crisis, keys left in doors and indeed doors that could be left open.  How different things are today.  For the most part we remain cocooned and insular, with no desire to know too much about our neighbours and not wanting them to know too much about ourselves.  Now, in times of crisis we have a paid army of social workers and counsellors we can turn to.  In this painting I have tried to depict people in their little boxes getting on with their lives oblivious to what is going on to the right, left above and below."
